Get your Confirmation ID
Activating Windows or Office by phone? Enter your Installation ID and your redeem code below to get your Confirmation ID instantly.
What is a Confirmation ID (CID)?
A Confirmation ID is the numeric code Microsoft’s activation system gives you to finish activating Windows or Office by phone. When online activation fails or isn’t possible, you switch to telephone activation: your PC shows an Installation ID, you submit that ID, and Microsoft returns a matching Confirmation ID. You type that code into the activation screen and your product is licensed. Our tool above does that submit-and-return step for you in seconds, so you don’t have to sit on a call with Microsoft’s automated line.
How to activate Windows 10 / 11 by phone
Use the built-in SLUI 4 command to open the phone-activation screen and find your Installation ID:
- Press Windows key + R to open the Run box.
- Type
slui 4and press Enter. (Note the space between “slui” and “4”.) - Choose your country / region from the dropdown and click Next.
- Windows shows your Installation ID — a long number in nine blocks. This is what you’ll enter into the tool above.
- Paste the Installation ID and your redeem code into the tool, get your Confirmation ID, then click Enter Confirmation ID on the activation screen.
- Type the Confirmation ID into boxes A–H and click Activate Windows. Done.
Tip: slui 4 opens the phone-activation window. If you need to enter or change a product key first, use slui 3 instead.
How to activate Microsoft Office by phone
Open any Office app (Word, Excel) and enter your product key. When the Activation Wizard appears, choose “I want to activate the software by telephone”, select your country, and Office will show its Installation ID. Enter that ID into the tool above to get your Confirmation ID, then type it into the A–H boxes to finish. This works for Office 2016, 2019, 2021 and 2024 retail/perpetual licences.
When do you need phone activation?
- Online activation failed or your PC has no internet connection.
- Your key was already used on another device and online activation is blocked.
- You reinstalled Windows after formatting, or changed major hardware (motherboard, CPU, drive).
- You’re activating a key type that uses telephone activation by design.
- You hit an activation error such as 0xC004F074, 0xC004C008, or 0xC004C003 — phone activation often gets past these by validating the licence directly.

Frequently asked questions
Is Microsoft 365 / Office 365 the same as this?
No. Microsoft 365 and Office 365 are subscriptions that activate through your online Microsoft account — they don’t use Installation IDs or Confirmation IDs. Phone activation and CIDs apply only to perpetual versions of Office (2016, 2019, 2021, 2024) and to Windows.
How long is an Installation ID?
It’s a long numeric code shown in several blocks on the activation screen — typically around 54–63 digits depending on the product. Enter it exactly as shown; the tool cleans up spaces and dashes for you.
What if my Confirmation ID doesn’t work?
Almost always it’s a mistyped Installation ID. Re-check the Installation ID on your screen, generate a fresh Confirmation ID, and enter it carefully into boxes A–H. If Microsoft rejects the Installation ID because the key has exceeded its activation limit, phone activation can’t fix that — you’d need a new key.
Is phone activation permanent?
Yes. Once activated by phone, Windows and Office stay activated — unless you make a major hardware change (like swapping the motherboard), which can require re-activation.
Do I need to call Microsoft?
No. The tool above returns your Confirmation ID directly, so you skip the automated phone line entirely. You still complete the final step on your own PC’s activation screen.
